40-year lady came to MITR hospital out-patient department with pain in right side of upper abdomen with nausea for 2 days. She was examined for pain in the right upper abdomen. A sonography confirmed the clinical suspicion of gallstones. There was minimal gallbladder wall swelling, no common bile duct calculous and normal pancreas. Blood investigations done showed normal white blood cell count, normal liver function tests and normal amylase, lipase.
She was advised for cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder) and options of laparoscopic and robotic surgery, advantages, and disadvantages of both the surgeries discussed. She decided for Robot assisted Cholecystectomy. Preoperative blood investigations, Xray Chest and ECG were done, and medical fitness was taken. Preanesthetic check-up was done.
She was admitted on the day of the surgery three hours prior to surgery. An antibiotic was given on admission. Under general anaesthesia, four cuts were made: two cuts were 10 mm for the telescope and right-hand instrument, two cuts were 5 mm for retraction and left-hand instrument. Standard dissection done and cystic duct stump was clipped. Gallbladder was removed and closure of the wound done with absorbable stitches and waterproof dressing.
Patient recovered well and after 24hrs of surgery she got discharge from the hospital.
